Mike was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in December 1945. The name Nattrass came from further North with generations in Ripon. His father, a Lancaster Pilot and his mother was in the Red Cross. His four uncles all saw active service in WW2.

After being demobbed his father returned to the West Riding Police Force but was transferred to Leicestershire where Mike went to various schools including Guthlaxton Grammar in Wigston and Coalville Grammar known as “King Edwards” which later gave Mike laughs in Birmingham and in Coalville where the name is so esteemed (his was a later King Edward!) On leaving school Mike studied to be a Chartered Surveyor working first for an agricultural practise and later the Inland Revenue (7 years).

He became Group Property Manager for the Quinton Hazel Group (7 years). Here he met Denis Thatcher.

In 1980 he started “Nattrass Giles” in Birmingham consulting on Industrial and Commercial property and later in Nottingham. He left the practise in 2007 to concentrate all his time on the MEP task.
